Study Afternoon - Fraternity and Femininity: Family Ties in the Art of Édouard Vuillard and the Nabis

The Art of Vuillard and the Nabis 'brotherhood',  (including Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis and Vuillard's brother-in-law Ker-Xavier Roussel) often depicted their mothers, sisters and grandmothers in relation to larger themes of family and femininity in French art and society. This afternoon will include papers from speakers including the exhibition's curator, Dr Francesca Berry (University of Birmingham), Professor Belinda Thomson (University of Edinburgh), Dr Rachel Sloan (Courtauld Institute of Art, London) and Mathias Chivot (Archives Vuillard, Paris) followed by a round table discussion. Join us for a lively debate and gain a new insight into Vuillard and his Nabi contemporaries.
