The University of Birmingham Green Heart Festival celebrations will be kick-started with the launch weekend on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June 2019, with free activities, open to all.
The University of Birmingham Orchestra, Brass Band and Samba Bands are fine tuning their musical instruments, ready for a full afternoon and evening of music and dance performances and workshops on Saturday 8th June. Come ready to dance to the beat of the Samba drums!
In the afternoon there will be activities aimed at all ages, hosted by our Academic Researchers, to showcase the work of the University in Nature, Science, Medicine and Sport, in a fun-filled way.
From 7.30pm on Saturday 8 June 2019, the Outdoor Evening Prom will start, with music and singing from the University of Birmingham Orchestra, our talented Festival Voices, and distinguished Solo Performances. Playing some recognised pieces for rousing audience participation, we are all set to ‘raise the roof’!
On Sunday 9 June 2019 the world renowned City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra have chosen the Green Heart as the venue for their 2019 CBSO Song Festival with Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla.
Featuring Conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla and Chorus Director Simon Halsey, the Song Festival provides amazing opportunities for choirs from far and wide to perform with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, in the stunning setting of the Green Heart. If you are a member of a Choir which would like to take part in the Song Festival please visit https://cbso.co.uk/song-festival
The Green Heart Festival weekend is free to attend. However, there will be a Registration Fee for Choirs to participate in the Song Festival, with the CBSO, administered by the CBSO.
Early registration for the Green Heart Festival Launch weekend is encouraged.
The Festival will be following the four seasons throughout the year. If for any reason we experience all four seasons in one day the launch weekend will still go ahead- come rain or shine!
And everyone can take part!
Against the amazing Green Heart background, this is a summer weekend not to be missed.
We do hope you will be able to attend the event. Please help spread the word, bring your family, friends, picnic blankets and strong voices on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June 2019.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Green Heart Festival.
